Stylish Small Spaces: 10 Best Condo Decorating Ideas!
An exciting part of having your own place is really making it feel like yours with furniture and decor. One thing that can be a challenge in condos, however, is decorating with style while also creating storage solutions.
The good news is that as the condo market rapidly gains in popularity, more and more home stores are catering to small spaces. There are also many blogs and magazine spreads that feature innovative and trend-setting ideas for condos.
We love looking at how designers and individuals are styling condos in Toronto. From everything we’ve seen, these are our
10 Favourite Condo Decorating Ideas:
- Translucent furniture
In a small room, clear furniture makes a space look bigger. They let the light through and don’t look bulky. So, consider adding translucent/acrylic dining chairs, bar stools, or tables to your condo!
Many stores have translucent furniture- Including IKEA, Structube, Kitchen Stuff Plus, and more. (They call them “Ghost Chairs” at many retailers…but don’t let that scare you)!
2. Storage Beds & Coffee Tables
Choose coffee tables that double as storage spaces. They are a great place to store books, magazines, and even extra kitchen supplies. Add stools and couches that open into storage too!
Find beds that have drawers underneath and storage shelves in headboards/footboards. That way you don’t need a large dresser or too much shelving for books or clothes.
3. Use Floating Shelves
Rather than take up floor space, floating shelves add storage up higher. They can even go in corners or above doors. (Great in bathrooms)! They also look unique and modern, and you can fill them with those knick knacks you thought you’d have to get rid of when moving to a small space.
4. Decorate with Mirrors
Mirrors don’t have to look dated or bring back panicky memories of a fun-house. There are so many stylish mirrors now, including gallery wall mirror collections that look great and make a space feel bigger. Mirrors in a hallway make them feel wider and reflect more light into narrow spaces. Find modern ones in any home store, or search at antique for unique/quirky ones (you could paint them fun colours too).

5. Turn Islands into Dining Tables
If you don’t have room for a dining table, consider a kitchen island with stools. Then it works as both food prep space and a place to eat with friends. You can buy small islands that roll to the side when you want them out of the way. Of course, if you get one of those make sure it also has storage underneath!

6. Fold-out Desks
Like Murphy beds, there are also desks that fold out of the wall AND have shelves in behind them. So store your craft or work supplies in the shelves and fold-out the desk when you’re ready to get to work.

7. Sliding Doors and Barn Doors
Many condo owners in Toronto choose to replace bedroom doors, closet doors, and bathroom doors into sliding ones. The wooden barn doors looks especially great, while the sliding feature means space is saved (and no one will get hit by a suddenly opened door)! They are another good place to incorporate mirrors too.

8. Turn Clothing (And Bikes!) Into Wall Art
Hang bikes on the wall to give your condo a cool loft look without taking up floor space. You can even hang bikes from the ceiling (hanging down or flush with the ceiling spending on the height you’re working with.
Put your favourite clothing pieces (think colourful or patterned dresses and hats) on display rods or hooks on walls, even super high up on walls.
9. “Loft” Beds
These beds are a classic for small spaces- and for good reason! They really combine practicality, style, and storage all in one brilliant furniture item. Sleep up high in your loft bed, and fit a couch and shelves under it. You can even have shelves on the side of them that double as stairs up to the bed.
10. Vintage Suitcases & Trunks
Buy cool suitcases and trunks (think leather straps and buckles). Then stack them as bedside tables, use them as coffee tables, or hang them on walls as artwork. After finding where they look best in your condo, use them as storage for items you use in that room.
Using them in a bathroom? Hang a petite suitcase on the wall and open it up to reveal little shelves in it that hold your toiletries. Using one in the living room? Use a trunk as extra seating by putting a velvet pillow on top and extra blankets and books inside.
