What to know and love about this Toronto neighbourhood
The Waterfront, also called Harbourfront, is one of the most tranquil neighbourhoods in Toronto. Located along the shores of Lake Ontario, this former shipping port has transformed into a retreat within the city. Walking trails meander along the water and music is always around the corner. The Toronto Music Garden, co-designed by Yo Yo Ma, and the Harbourfront Centre have year-round events. The Toronto Islands are a quick boat ride away, with even more recreation and outdoor space to discover. In a busy city, Waterfront real estate provides a refreshing pocket of scenery and serenity.
The lake of course! There is nothing as wonderful as waking up by the water. Festivals are on all year, like the Island Soul festival, concerts, free movie nights, and the weekend Lake View Market. Walk to St. Lawrence Market, or hail a water taxi to the Toronto Islands. Explore beaches, bike paths, a petting zoo, and an amusement park. Get lunch on the island and dance to more free music on land, or listen from a boat!
Are relaxed. It’s true! People who choose Waterfront real estate in Toronto have decided to live a calmer lifestyle than those in the core. The majority of people are under the age of 45, but retirees also choose to buy condos on the water.
What to Expect: Tranquility and recreation. Adults and children can take sailing lessons, swim, and ride bikes along the water. Commuters can quickly transit to Union Station for the subway or GO Transit. The Gardiner Expressway and Lakeshore Boulevard are an easy drive away. Entertainment venues are also plentiful, with the Air Canada Centre, CNE, Rogers Centre Skydome, and CN Tower all close by!
What NOT to Expect: It’s not in the heart of downtown nightlife. If you want to go out there are some nearby clubs, and the subway is always accessible. If you are looking for a low-rise building there are few in the Waterfront area, where taller condo buildings take best advantage of the view.
A Day in the Life: Have coffee on your condo balcony while the sun glitters on the lake. Then stroll along the waterfront trails while neighbours, children, and dogs enjoy the outdoors. Shop at Queens Quay Terminal, and eat lunch overlooking the lake on the glass railed patio at Amsterdam Brewhouse. Take a lawn chair to the concert at the music garden tonight, or see the free movie at Harbourfront Centre. It’s all up to you!
