What to know and love about this Toronto neighbourhood

Welcome to South Riverdale

Riverdale is a Toronto neighbourhood known for its parks and charm. Beautiful homes and plenty of green space make the area a sought after retreat within the city. Children enjoy the recreation, while parents seek out the area for its top-rated schools. Great restaurants line Danforth Avenue, along with grocery stores, cafes, libraries, and shops. “The Danforth” is also home to Greektown, so vibrant Greek restaurants and bakeries can be found throughout the neighbourhood. Riverdale Park and Withrow Park are known for their size and the incredible recreation they offer. Residents are laid-back and enjoy a peaceful lifestyle surrounded by everything they need. Riverdale is a welcoming pocket in the city with a close community feel.

 “you’ll love”

The parks and the family environment. Whether you have children or not, this community will make you feel at home. People enjoy the parks, joining community centre clubs, and dining along The Danforth. Riverdale Park has iconic skyline views, a pool, jogging track, and an amazing “toboggan hill.” Withrow Park has two playgrounds, a clubhouse, bonfire pit, and a skating rink. Both parks offer off-leash dog areas, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, and soccer fields. Events like Farmer’s Markets, and the famous Taste of The Danforth food festival happen in Riverdale.

 the neighbours

Real estate in North Riverdale is popular with working age people and young families. Many young children are raised here with school friends nearby. There are many local classes and groups to join where neighbours mingle.

Local Insight: “In the summer we take lawn chairs to Shakespeare in the Park. They build the stage between two willow trees in Withrow Park. It’s free to drop in and watch!”

what its like to live here

What to Expect: Community and convenience. Riverdale has a diverse local business scene, with dining and shopping walkable from anywhere in the neighbourhood. There is a subway stop every few blocks, and streetcars run along Broadview. Getting to work by subway easily, or take the Don Valley Parkway. Shop along The Danforth, or at nearby Chinatown East or Gerrard Square. For even more fun, take the shuttle from Broadview to The Brickworks for trails, art, and events. Or take the footpath from Riverdale Park to Riverdale Farm for The Cabbagetown Festival, and barnyard animals!

What NOT to Expect: Since there are mostly single family homes here, don’t expect too many condos coming up for sale. When one is available, act quickly.

A Day in the Life: Your North Riverdale condo is in the heart of the neighbourhood. Walk to Riverdale Perk for coffee. Ride your bike through Withrow Park to Pape library and borrow a cook book. Get a shake at The Big Carrot organic market. Then, go to pottery class at The Clay Room, and pick up the mug your daughter painted last week at her friend’s birthday party. Have a Greek dinner at Christina’s while watching people walk by the patio. Now, it’s time to head to Danforth Music Hall for the concert you’ve been looking forward to. You can tell your friends all about it when you meet at Riverdale Park tomorrow for yoga.
